Red Hat Society - Enrollment
The Red Hat Society is a international group of women that came together as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor, and élan. They believed silliness is the comedy relief of life and, since they were all in it together, they might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto. The organization was started in California, and since then thousands of chapters have cropped up all over the country. Nancy Davis and Patsy Anderson started a chapter, The Belles of Baltimore, in 2002. The current membership ranges in age from 40 to 70, combines all walks of life, and has members from all areas of Baltimore, primarily in the Catonsville area. Their goal is three-fold: To provide a support system for middle aged women who share the same pleasures and issues; serves as a professional networking resource; provides a way to "give back" to the community in the way of charitable work. This chapter, one o! f the largest in the country, meets quarterly and offers such events as a "Shopping Extravaganza" in the Fall and a "Welcome Tea" in the Spring. Marching in the Catonsville 4th of July Parade is one of their favorite events. Other meeting topics have included, Humor, the Importance In Our Lives, Preparing For the Holidays, as well as an annual talent show.
